Podcast 53 – Where we Talk About Clan Ventrue
Hello everyone! Welcome to the 307 RPG podcast. My name is Patrick and I am your host, and I am joined by my co-host,
Nolan – I’m Nolan.
Nolan, what’s going on?
307 RPG News
We are of course excited about the new t-shirts available on our Redbubble store. Which a link to can be found on our homepage at 307RPG.com. Be sure to check those out.
We announced last week we would be playing Scarred Lands on the Onyx Path Twitch Channel starting this Wednesday. This date has been moved back to Aug. 21. Never fear, we will be live soon, just need more time to put the icing on the cake, as it were.
Dungeons and Dragons
Not a whole lot of news coming out of the Wizards of the Coast camp; however, there is a product I thought we should talk about today. It’s the DnD Essentials Kit. Have you seen this product?
The Essentials kit is a box set that includes everything you need to start playing. It’s much like the beginners set that contain the Lost Mines of Phandelvar. In this case, it comes with a DM screen, characters, monster cards and more. It has rules to help people create their characters and has the adventure, Dragon of Icespire Peak. Further, it includes rules to be played 1 on 1.
It looks like an updated, and upgraded version of the starter Kit. Which I am ok with. It is currently only available at Target but will be released to other stores on September 3, 2019.
What do you think of these starter kits companies put out? Do you think it’s a good way to introduce people to the game?
In a press release, Onyx Path recently announced they will be publishing Cult of the Blood Gods for Vampire: the Masquerade 5th edition. According to the release, “
August 1, 2019 — Rich Thomas, founder and Creative Director of Onyx Path Publishing, announced the company’s next supplement for the newly-launched Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Editioncorebook will be Cults of the Blood Gods.
“I’m tremendously excited to be developing Cults of the Blood Gods for V5! We’ll be seeing all kinds of faiths and factions, from the Church of Set to the Hecata, the Bahari to the Church of Caine, the Mithraic Mysteries to the Cult of Shalim, and more besides,” said Matthew Dawkins, the World of Darkness developer for Onyx Path Publishing. “Being able to provide rules for this edition’s Clan of Death is quite the privilege, and we’ll be looking to impress people with how they’re presented. I’ve got an excellent, diverse team with a range of experience on this book, and we’re all going to work hard to make it stand out.”
This is going to be fantastic, I think. Any new books coming out for V5 are welcomed as far as I am concerned. Here is the link to the full press release.
Onyx Path has also recently announced the Storypath Nexus, which they are partnering with DrivethruRPG. “Publishing, owner and producer for the Scion 2nd Edition, Trinity Continuum, and They Came from Beneath the Sea tabletop game lines, is partnering with DriveThruRPG to allow independent content creators to publish material in the Storypath Nexus program. This Community Content program utilizes the Storypath System that powers several games published by Onyx Path.”
This seems very similar to what they have done with the Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands. It should be pretty neat. Here is a link to the press release
Onyx Path is about to launch another Kickstarter, too, for the game Deviant: the Renegades. I know Matthew Dawkins just did a Youtube Q&A on this game that I haven’t been able to catch yet. I need to because it’s not something I know anything about.
There’s a lot going on at Onyx Path, that’s for sure.
Moving on! It’s time we head to our topic of the night, the Ventrue. Some of the best information about the clans can be found in the book, Lore of the Clans. You can find this on DrivethruRPG, here. You can also get lots of great information on the wiki, here. And, before we go too deep into our discussion, I wanted to mention about the Onyx Path News live stream that Matthew Dawkins does. I do my best to watch these and try to catch it live. Trouble is, I am at work when Matthew is broadcasting. However, today I had it playing in the background here at work. I thought it would be cool to have Mr. Dawkins tell us something little known about the Ventrue. And he decided he was going to tell us what generation the infamous Ventrue Mithras was at embrace. Not gonna lie, I was excited. But Mr. Dawkins is a cruel, cruel man and he cut off the stream as he was about to tell us. Well played, Mr. Dawkins, well played.
